A firewall tries to block hackers and viruses from ever reaching your computer. Automatic updates help protect your computer from hackers and viruses. Virus protection scans your computer for viruses and tries to remove them.
Security Center
Open the control panel.
- Press the start button.
- Click the Control Panel item.
Open the security center.
- Click the Security Center link.
This is the security center.
This completes the security center.
Firewall
The internet sends all kinds of messages and all kinds of information to your computer. A firewall looks at all that information and all those messages and tries to block hackers and viruses from ever reaching your computer.
- Press the Firewall down carets.
- The McAfee Personal Firewall Plus is protecting my computer.
- Press the Firewall up carets.
If your firewall is off, then turn on the Windows firewall.
- Click the Windows Firewall link.
- Select the On (Recommended) option.
- Press the OK button.
The ok button changes the firewall and closes the Windows firewall dialog. The cancel button closes the Windows firewall without changing the firewall.
Automatic Updates
Automatic updates are really important to get the latest bug fixes and patches that help protect your computer from hackers and viruses.
- Click the Automatic Updates link.
- Select the Automatic (recommended) option.
- Change the day to Every day.
- Change the time to 3:00 AM.
- Press the Apply button.
The apply button changes the automatic updates. The ok button changes the automatic updates and closes the system properties. The cancel button closes the system properties without changing the automatic updates.
Virus Protection
When your virus protection is out-of-date, you need to download the latest virus definitions to bring it back up-to-date. I'm not connected to the internet, though, so I can't do anything about it.
Since I'm not connected to the internet, I can't get viruses from the internet, but you can still get viruses from floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, and USB drives, so be careful!
