Mouse Properties

The mouse properties are the mouse properties and the touchpad properties. How slow or fast do you want the pointer to move? Should typing hide the pointer? What do you want the buttons to do? How much should the wheel scroll the windows? How do you want to use the touchpad?
Mouse Properties
Open the control panel.
- Press the start button.
- Click the Control Panel item.
Open the printers and other hardware.
- Click the Printers and Other Hardware link.
Select the mouse properties.
- In the or pick a Control Panel icon section,
- Click the Mouse link.
These are the mouse properties.
This completes the mouse properties.
Pointer Options
How slow or fast do you want the pointer to move? Should dialogs move the pointer? Should the pointer have a trail? Should typing hide the pointer? Do you want to highlight the pointer?
- Click the Devices tab.

How slow or fast do you want the pointer to move?
- Slide the Select a pointer speed knob between Slow and Fast.
- Move the pointer slowly or quickly.
Do you want dialogs to move the pointer?
- Checkmark the Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box
box.
- Dialogs move the pointer to their default button.
If you have a hard time following the cursor,
- Checkmark the Display pointer trails box.
- Slide the trail length knob between Short and Long.
- The pointer has a short trail or a long trail.
When you're typing, do you want it to hide the pointer?
- Checkmark the Hide pointer while typing box.
- Typing hides the pointer. Move the mouse to show the pointer again.
If you have a hard time finding the pointer, do you want to be able to highlight it?
- Checkmark the Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key box.
- Press the control key on your keyboard to highlight the pointer.
The apply button changes the pointer options. The ok button changes the pointer options and closes the mouse properties. The cancel button closes the mouse properties without changing the pointer options.
Buttons
Usually you click the left button and right-click the right button, but you can change it so you click the right button and left-click the left button.
- Click the Buttons tab.

Which touchpad button do you want to click, and do you want to right-click or left-click?
- Select the Left Button as Primary.
- Select the Right Button as Secondary.
- Click the left button and right-click the right button as usual.

- Select the Left Button as Secondary.
- Select the Right Button as Primary.
- Click the right button and left-click the left button.
How fast do you want to double-click?
- Slide the Double Click Speed to Slow..
- You can take a long time in between clicks and still get a double-click.

- Slide the Double Click Speed to Fast..
- You have to click fast to get a double-click.
Try out your double-click speed.
- Double-click the Test Area.
Which mouse button do you want to click, and do you want to right-click or left-click?
- Checkmark the Swap the left and right buttons on the external USB pointing device box.
- Click the right button and left-click the left button.

- Uncheck the Swap the left and right buttons on the external USB pointing device box.
- Click the left button and right-click the right button as usual.

Wheel
Roll the wheel to scroll a window.
- Click the Wheel tab.

When you roll the wheel, how much should it scroll the window?
- Select the Roll the wheel one notch to scroll option
- as The following number of lines at a time and type it as 3.
- The wheel scrolls three lines at a time.

- Select the Roll the wheel one notch to scroll option as One screen at a
time.
- The wheel scrolls a page at a time.
The apply button changes the wheel. The ok button changes the wheel and closes the mouse properties. The cancel button closes the mouse properties without changing the wheel.
Devices
The devices are just one device, the touchpad.
- Click the Devices tab.

Do you want to use the touchpad or do you want to ignore it?
- Select the TouchPad as Enable or Disable to use it or ignore it.
- Select the TouchPad Buttons as Enable or Disable to use them or ignore
them.
When you plug in a mouse, do you still want to use the touchpad?
- Checkmark the Disable TouchPad/Stick when a USB pointing device is present box.
- Use the mouse, but ignore the touchpad.

- Uncheck the Disable TouchPad/Stick when a USB pointing device is present box.
- Use the mouse and the touchpad.
The apply button changes the devices. The ok button changes the devices and closes the mouse properties. The cancel button closes the mouse properties without changing the devices.
Touchpad
How do you want to use the touchpad?
- Click the TouchPad tab.

Do you want to tap the touchpad to click and drag and drop?
- Checkmark the Tap to Click box.
- Tapping the touchpad is the same as clicking the button.

- Checkmark the Taps and Drags box.
- Tap the touchpad and keep touching it to drag.
- Stop touching the pad to drop.

- Checkmark the Locking Drags box.
- Tap the touchpad and keep touching it to drag.
- You can stop touching the pad, then start touching it again to continue dragging.
- Tap the touchpad again to drop.
How soft or hard do you want to touch the pad?
- Drag the Touch Sensitivity knob between Light Touch and Heavy
Touch.
- You can touch the pad softly or you have to press down hard.
The touchpad tries to tell the difference between your finger and your palm.
- Checkmark the Enable PalmCheck box.
- Ignore your palm if you accidentally touch it against the pad.
This completes the touchpad.
Gestures
Assign actions to the corners of the touch-pad, for example, you could tap the bottom right corner to right-click. Touch along the edges of the pad to scroll windows.
- Click the Gestures tab.

This completes the gestures.
Edge Motion
How do you want the touchpad to scroll windows?
- Click the Edge Motion tab.

This completes the edge motion.
